Meet Pastor Derrick & Sister Kim
How we met
Kim and I met in the Spring of 2003 at the Pantages Theatre in Tacoma Washington, where I was cast in a play with her brother Gael T. Jones. We met briefly after the play and I was instantly smitten by her beauty and quietness. We talked, we dated, we loved, we engaged, and then we married (for better or worse, good AND bad times, until death do we part). She has truly been my life partner and I love her dearly. –Pastor Derrick
Pastor Derrick was born and reared in Leesville, Louisiana. He was raised by his maternal grandmother from the age of 5 until 17, when he left home to go to college at Louisiana State University (LSU) in August 1991. He attended LSU for 3 years, but eventually relocated to the Pacific Northwest to live closer to his biological mother. He eventually enrolled in City University of Seattle where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. After completing his studies, he went on to complete the requirements for state licensure and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for the state of Washington.
Pastor Derrick began serving his local church at a very young age. He volunteered for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Musician, Lawn and Grounds Keeper, and Worship Leader. Pastor Derrick’s vocal music ministry has afforded him the opportunity to grace many platforms along with many Gospel industry greats. However, nothing fulfills Pastor Derrick more than serving the Lord in his community. He does not need an audience, he just needs the assignment and he’s ready to jump in with both feet.
Sister Kim is a native of the Pacific Northwest, having been born in Seattle Washington. Sister Kim is a woman of many talents, and she walks in a spirit of excellence in all that she does. She faithfully supports her husband in ministry and works closely with the church members to learn and understand their roles and responsibilities. Like her husband, she too sets an example of excellence by serving along side the members of the church.
Sister Kim attended the University of Oregon, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and electronic media. Her education has afforded her the opportunity to work for the Seattle Trinity Broadcasting Network as a Floor Director, Control Room Operator, and Talk Show Host of Public Report. She is also a very proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and is a member of the Zeta Omega Omega chapter in Tacoma. She is a dedicated wife, loving mother, and supportive first lady. She has been through many valleys and through the shadows of death. But through it all, she has a powerful overcoming testimony and continues to stand tall as a lady and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.
